Prostitute Karaoke Vol. 1

Audio 8

Nov '04
This wall rattling, futuristic sounding album, Prostitute Karaoke Vol. 1, is as far from the commercial scene as possible, and that’s the way it’s meant to be. The methodic beats of Polyphonic the Verbose and the politically charged vocals of Sunn tha Sarkastik are powerful and mesmerizing. “Shadow Of The Empire,” a song declaring the need for a revolution, is accompanied by the delicate flute and clarinet work of A.M. Overton. Following that track is “Line After Line,” a song about the love of music not the money, altruistic topics rarely heard within the industry. The music, considered a mix of static hip-hop, experimental electronic music and dubbed-out reggae, is a refreshing take on life and politics when compared with the rewound shallow meanings of misogynistic and money hungry commercial rap.
